
With the Oscars and the BAFTAs out of the way, it is time for the Brammy Awards.
Each year, the Brammys recognise outstanding contributions to the cause of Bramley apples by retailers, manufacturers and foodservice companies and nominations are now open.
The Brammy Awards categories for 2008 are:
The judges will be looking for a number of qualities from the winning businesses: The best retailer will be recognised for their in-store support for fresh Bramley apples, while the best manufacturer will need to produce a high quality innovative Bramley apple product or products. The award for best foodservice company will be based on excellent and consistent use of Bramley apples within a number of dishes.
The Brammy Awards are now in their 15th year and 2007 winners included M&S, Sainsbury’s, Manor Bakeries and Vamix NV (UK).
Companies may nominate themselves via the website, BramleyTrade.co.uk. The judges will also makes awards in the Media Chef and Food Writer categories.
The Bramley Campaign’s Adrian Barlow says: “This has been an exceptional year for the Bramley, with a significant increase in sales. This has been in large part due to the support of retailers, manufacturers and foodservice companies and the Brammy Awards are intended to recognise and reward their efforts.”
The Bramley apple is renowned for its exceptional flavour and moist texture. Popular in a range of sweet and savoury dishes, this classic British ingredient is versatile and easy to use commercially and research suggests that consumers expect premium apple products to contain Bramleys.
